Mini Mops, Inc. ~ Exceptional House Cleaning since 1975

Party! Do you clean house before or after?

You’re hosting a party at your home … Do you call in the professional house cleaning help BEFORE or AFTER the party?

We get both scenarios at Mini Mops House Cleaning. There isn’t a right or wrong answer.

Perhaps it would be helpful to consider this:

Who are you cleaning the house for?

• If it’s for your guests, then by all means, call the professionals BEFORE.
• If it’s for yourself, schedule the house cleaning AFTER.
• If you can afford it, DO BOTH!

The benefit of cleaning before is that your guests see a beautiful, sparkling clean home. At least the first few do. Once there are crowds of people gathered, and possibly gifts piling up, your guests are no longer noticing your home.

Let’s face it, they’re noticing each other. Interacting with each other. At least they SHOULD be!

On the other hand, once they leave, you’ll be the one facing the chore of cleaning up. Wouldn’t it be nice to have help then? (Or at least the next working day?)

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please leave a comment below. And feel free to share this post with others … let’s have a party!

Serving Our Community

We at Mini Mops House Cleaning believe that companies should step up and take an active role in supporting their communities. And, for us, this is not just a lofty ideal spouted in the corporate mission statement … we ACT on our belief!

For example, Mini Mops began donating cleaning services to the Hinds Hospice Home in Fresno CA when Nancy Hinds first opened the facility’s doors in 1987, and we continue to do so today.

Mini Mops also is a proud supporter of the Hinds Hospice Angel Babies program and is a sponsor of the annual Angel Babies Walk/Run Fundraiser.

Additionally, Mini Mops sponsors and/or participates in events and fundraisers for Easter Seals Central California, Fresno Unified School District, Fresno County Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and many other individual community service efforts.

We believe that as it “takes a village to raise a child,” so does it take the support of all entities (individuals, businesses, government) to raise a community.

We encourage you to join us and do your part!

Thank you!

House Cleaning Challenges for Those Who Live With Pets

Posted in Cleaning Tips,Mini Mops, Inc. by Michele Peterson on April 15, 2012
Tags: , , , , , ,

When you share your home with animals, you face special house cleaning challenges. Let’s talk about a few:

Dogs

One of the concerns new dog owners have is the “accident” in the house issue. But unless they’re puppies – or left by themselves for too long – most dogs are actually pretty good about the potty-training issue. Of course, you DO have to train them first!

Perhaps a bigger concern is what to do with all the hair that a dog can shed. There are some breeds that don’t seem to shed at all, some that shed only marginally, and then there are those that leave globs of hair all around the house … constantly … even in the dead of winter!

All that hair can be a house cleaning nightmare! It clogs a vacuum, sticks to surfaces you’re trying to remove it from, scatters again with the slightest puff of wind …

The key here is diligent maintenance. This includes cleaning your surfaces regularly, vacuuming often, not letting it get too built up and unmanageable.

Now, another concern with dogs that live inside is the dirt they bring in on their paws … and that will be mud in the rainy season.

You’re going to be mopping your hard-surface floors A LOT. And you might as well pre-schedule a carpet cleaning every couple of months or so … you’re going to need it.

Cats

Certain breeds of cats can shed just as much as some dogs. And your strategy for clean-up is the same as we discussed above.

A cat’s litter box – and the surrounding area – is a challenge all its own. And, by the way, most professional house cleaning companies won’t touch them for insurance and health safety reasons.

Fish

A properly maintained aquarium is indeed a thing of beauty and tranquility. Healthy fish are soothing and peaceful (which is why so many doctors install aquariums in their offices).

But the key words for fish are “properly maintained.”

A lot can go wrong with fish and aquariums, so please consult a professional for their recommendations and suggestions on best practices.

Birds

Birds are beautiful … beautifully messy! They tend to scatter seed everywhere. The cage needs to be cleaned regularly. And their feathers are actually dusty – especially during molting season.

What to do?

If you’re going to share your home with pets, you’re going to have to accept that your house cleaning routine will be different from that of a homeowner who does not.

You may be doing different cleaning tasks. You may be using special equipment. You likely will be cleaning more frequently.

If it gets to be too much, we hope that you will look into hiring a professional house cleaning service. Just be sure to ask about any pet policies when you’re doing your initial interview.

You don’t want to be surprised later.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter from your friends at Mini Mops House Cleaning!

10 Questions to Ask When Hiring a House Cleaning Company

You’ve decided to hire someone to clean your house … Great! Good for you!

But now what?

Now you have to find someone – a company – that you’re comfortable hiring!

Top 10 Questions

Here are some questions that you need to ask:

1. Will the company visit my home to evaluate the work I need to have completed?
2. Will I receive a written estimate?
3. Does the company have references and/or testimonials?
4. What is the company’s Better Business Bureau rating?
5. How long has the company been in business?
6. Is the company fully insured (general liability AND worker’s compensation coverage)?
7. Who is going to clean my home … company employees or sub-contractors?
8. Is the company knowledgeable about how to properly clean the specific items and finishes in my home?
9. Do I have a rapport with the company representatives?
10. Do I believe that the company will be able to meet my needs and exceed my expectations?

Next Steps

When gathering information about and from your potential new house cleaners, you’ll need to take notes. Review those notes after you’ve interviewed all the companies that you’re considering so that you can evaluate who is the best match for you.

Remember, it is highly critical that you feel comfortable with whomever you hire to work in your home!

This article assumes that you will be hiring a professional house cleaning company rather than an individual. An important thing to think about is this: While a company is going to cost more than an independent individual, the benefit of limiting your liability is probably worth paying for.

So take your time. Ask for and then check references. Make sure you understand any company policies and how they may relate to you.

And most importantly, if you have one of those “gut feelings,” pay attention to it!

Good luck, and enjoy your clean home!

Cleaning Tip: Choose the Right Vacuum for the Job

Posted in Cleaning Tips,Mini Mops, Inc. by Michele Peterson on January 21, 2012
Tags: , , ,

Anybody who works with tools will tell you that having the right tool for the job makes a huge difference. This applies to house cleaning, too!

The Upright Vacuum

The upright vacuum sits on the floor and works when you push it. It uses suction to remove dirt and debris from carpet and area rugs.

A word of caution: because of the strong suction created by a good upright vacuum, you must make sure that area rugs are sturdy enough to hold up to being vacuumed with this type of vacuum.

As a professional house cleaning company, Mini Mops, Inc. uses commercial Sanitaire vacuums like the one pictured here. However, there are a wide variety of upright vacuums for homeowners to choose from.

The Canister Vacuum

Unlike the upright, the canister vacuum has different attachments that are used for different jobs.

For example, the canister vacuum that Mini Mops uses is the Hoover Portapower. It has a floor brush, an upholstery brush, a crevice tool, and a soft brush for delicate jobs.

The canister vacuum is used to vacuum upholstered furniture, drapes, blinds, lamp shades, the corners and edges of a room, and much more.

The canister vacuum also can be used to vacuum delicate area rugs that can’t stand up to the more powerful upright vacuum.

What’s Best for You?

Homeowners have a wide array of makes, models and features available to choose from, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the number of choices.

That’s why our best advice is this: visit a vacuum shop and talk to an expert. Your best bet is to find a shop that both sells and services many brands. Talk to the professionals about your needs and your budget, and they will be able to find the perfect vacuum for you.

If you need help finding a vacuum shop, we suggest calling a local house cleaning company and asking them where they purchase and get their vacuums serviced. Mini Mops is happy to give referrals for the Fresno-Clovis CA area.

Time to Keep Those Resolutions

Posted in Mini Mops, Inc.,Professional help by Michele Peterson on January 14, 2012
Tags: , , , ,

How are you doing on those New Year’s Resolutions?

At the beginning of the year, many of us resolve to do things differently. We’ll eat better, exercise more, be more organized, whatever…

The common thread behind most resolutions is that they take TIME to keep. It takes time to shop for and then prepare healthy food. It takes time to go to the gym and exercise. It takes time to keep things properly organized.

So the question isn’t really whether you’re committed to keeping those resolutions; the question is how to find the TIME to keep them!

OK, so how do you create extra time?

One way is to delegate some of the things that take up your time to others. Can someone else do the shopping? The yard work? The house cleaning? Maybe you can hire someone to pay the bills and keep your finances in order.

Businesses call this outsourcing. The busy homeowner calls it extra time!

Getting professional help makes sense on many levels. The tasks are done well, sometimes even better than you could do yourself. AND you have the extra time to do the other things that are important to you!

Of course, you want to thoroughly check out the person or company you hire to help you. Ask for references, and make sure they are qualified to do what you are asking them to do. If it’s a company, make sure they are insured so that you aren’t liable if something were to happen. If it’s an individual, check with your own insurance company to make sure you’re covered if something were to happen.

Once you’ve crossed all the t’s and dotted all the i’s, enjoy the extra time you’ve created for yourself … and keep those resolutions!

A Mini Mops Christmas Tradition

Posted in Mini Mops, Inc. by Michele Peterson on December 23, 2011

What says “Christmas” to you and your family? Fruitcake? Prime rib? Tamales?

One long-standing Christmas tradition for the Mini Mops family is Suzette’s Fudge.

Mini Mops, Inc. founder and owner, Suzette Peterson, started making fudge to give to family and friends at Christmas many years — decades — ago. It was always a special treat when you received your tin of chocolatey goodness.

Since we can’t send fudge across the internet to our web friends, we are doing the next best thing. We’re sharing the recipe for Suzette’s Fudge. We hope you enjoy!

SUZETTE’S FUDGE
Melt together over low heat, then set aside:
     1/2 c. butter
     1 package (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
In a large bowl, beat 2 eggs until light.
Add 1 t. vanilla, and mix well.
Add melted chocolate mixture and chopped nuts as desired (about 1 c.). Mix well.
Pour into buttered 8×8 pan. Chill until set.

We’d love to hear about your Christmas traditions! Leave us a comment to share what says “Christmas” to you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
